Antique Boehm Wood Flute by Harry Bettoney
Estimated price for orientation: 700 $
Category: Flutes
Class:
Description Brand: Harry Bettoney Skill Level: Intermediate to Professional Body Material: Grenadilla Wood Model: Wood Type: Wood Soprano Flute Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Headjoint Material: Grenadilla Wood
For sale is a wonderful example of the fine wood flutes produced by the Bettoney company in their early days before they began to cater to students. This beautiful grenadilla wood flute has solid silver keys and mechanisms and gold springs. It has a serial number of 5404, much higher than the other Bettoney woodies I have owned, so it was likely made in the early 1920s. As you can see from the photos, this instrument is very well made and looks and plays a lot like the Haynes wood flutes of the period. The sounding length is 605mm, so it is pitched at around a=435, but with a little adjustment and concentration it can be played at a=440, modern pitch. It has a lovely, sweet wood sound which the player will find quite enjoyable as did I. Pat Nash, the fantastic repairman at Mynett Music who did the overhaul, also commented on how nice it sounded.Comes in the original case in decent condition along with an original grease tin. This is really a great flute available at a very reasonable price. It is being relisted due to a non-paying buyer!
