Dobro Square Neck Resonator Guitar - USA 1930's
Estimated price for orientation: 999 $
Category: Resonator
Class:
Description Brand: Dobro Design: Square Neck Type: Acoustic
Here's something you don't see everyday. (let alone get the opportunity to buy)
This is an original 1930s Square Neck Dobro (Made in the USA).
Original lug cone, spider, tuners etc. It plays beautifully and and has the wonderful unique tone that you only get from a vintage Dobro.
The instrument has only had one previous owner - a lady named Betty Perston. Betty used this guitar in a Hawaiian Band back in the day and the guitar will be sold with her original handmade paper leis, her handwritten notes and music books as well as a photo of Betty and the Hawaiian Band where she has written on the back.
Note the small plate on the head stock which reads - "Harry Mawsons Hawaiian Academy..."
When Betty left the Hawaiian Band the guitar was put under her bed and left there for about 60 years! It's a Dobro time capsule.
The guitar is in wonderful condition for it's age. Tuners, bridge, tailpiece, cone and spider are all perfect order. Worth mentioning though... it has some very fine cracks at the waist on the side but the cracks are in the top vaneer only. These fine cracks are surface only, they are stable and don't effect the playability of the guitar. I'm sure they could be repaired if they bothered you.
The guitar will be sold with all of the ephemera and it's original case PLUS a modern hard case which better protects the guitar.
This is not just a unique & collectable display piece. This guitar is perfect for blues, country, bluegrass and of course Hawaiian music. It's a player!
So if you've ever wanted a wonderful, rare, vintage, USA made slide guitar with a beautiful history and provenance... this is the one.
Pick up is in Bendigo or canl be shipped (reluctantly) at buyers expense.
