Up for auction is an Orchestrelle (Aeolian) Themodist Metrostyle Push Up Pianola. This pianola is in excellent working order and has seen some refurbishment over the years. The motor and striker pneumatics have been re-covered as well as some tubing. It looks like this was done some time ago but it has been done very well. The rubber cloth is in good condition as well as the pneumatic pipes which are still supple and flexible and haven't hardened or split. The main exhausters and reservoir bellows look to have their original covering however, this is in good condition and is covered with an air tight fabric which is much more durable than rubber cloth. This player works with standard 65 note pin-end rolls. It was very advanced for a push up and presumably it would have been one of the last made. It features a manual tracking lever, a metrostyle tempo lever and a themodist system, which creates independant volume controls over the two halves of the keys (bass and treble). All of the 65 keys strike perfectly and the player holds is vacuum very well, in fact my previous 4 pianolas I have owned were nowhere near as easy to pedal! The felt on the 'fingers' are original and in very good condition too. The cabinet is also in good shape too. It is a black ebonized wood case. It still has its original factory finish on which also is still in very good condition. Looks better than the photos, they turn out with quite a lot of glare on the casing making it look dull. A good wax polish and buff should have it looking even better but as it stands it is very presentable and tidy. The wheels on the bottom are original, the rubber wheel bands are perishing but they do still make very similar castors which can be switched over without any adjustments or modification. The height can be adjusted to fit any piano (including electronic) by use of an Imperial Allen key (not supplied) on each side of the unit, they are very easy to set up and only take a few minutes to adjust to a piano. The cabinet is stamped with the numbers 47477 and 12185 so I presume that this player dates from around 1912. I bought this earlier in the year, but due to a recent job loss I am having to give it up. It has been remained well serviced whilst in my posession, and has obviously been carefully looked after throughout its life. It comes with quite a lot of pianola rolls (approx 2-3 boxes worth), mainly all popular music, fox-trots, waltzes, one or two classical, a few I.Berlin rolls, ragtime etc. Here is a youtube video of it playing a roll: https://youtu.be/-m1G8CpfKhs If you wish to view it can be arranged, cash on collection only or via paypal or BACS before collection if you are arranging a courier, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
