Here we have a refurbished folding or preachers' organ as they were called.
Organ has been restored recently and plays with a loud bright sound with the left knee lever activated (this adds the second set of reeds which is 4 ft.) or by not pressing the left knee lever you will get the regular 8 ft. Tone which can be made louder or softer by activating the volume control with the right knee lever. Of course one must keep pumping gently and not stop while doing these functions! If you stop pumping, there will be no sound!
Bilhorn Bros. was made in Chicago in the '40's or maybe earlier. Seller could find no history of the company in Gellerman's The American Reed Organ but seller recalls some information about the business in his Reed Organ Atlas. That information will be added later.
Seller installed new bellows material, leathers, felt replaced as needed. All the reeds were removed and cleaned. It is a tricky operation to get everything working right just as it is restoring a full size reed organ. There are no shortcuts to be had.
Seller has restored 100 or more organs and have sold that many either restored or as found.
