Up for auction is a vintage (serial number 521281) Conn 6D Double French Horn. This instrument was built in Conn's Elkhart factory. The bell engraving reads: “C.G. CONN/ ELKHART-IND/-U.S.A-” and the leadpipe has “6D” stamped on the mouthpiece ferrule. The horn is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move well with very good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some dings and pings and some light scratching and isolated spots of pitting and etching throughout the instrument. This is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This horn has been upgraded to a screw-bell configuration; there is a small rippled area near the edge of the bell flare. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn has had the old lacquer removed to improve its tone, as well as for aesthetics. Therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wipes off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a used featherlight briefcase style screwbell case in good condition and a mouthpiece in good condition. How the horn plays: Warm, full and open sound; colorful and rich tone; the horn is very responsive and fairly free-blowing; the low and high registers speak very well; the dynamic range is very good; the Bb side is a bit brighter in timbre than the F side (as is usual)All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N. Curry St. Carson City, NV 89703(775) 301-6289
