1996 GETZEN "RENAISSANCE" MODEL 20S - SILVER PLATED WITH GOLD TRIM - MEDIUM LARGE BORE PROFESSIONAL Bb TRUMPET IN COLLECTOR GRADE CONDITION
I have been playing horns for 59 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, and building custom horns for 48. Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection. During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so. All my horns are gig ready...cleaned, valves adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary. PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED For your consideration, here is an 20 year old "P" Series issue Getzen Renaissance 20S in collector grade condition that is in need of a new owner. The horn is as close to factory mint condition as possible considering it has been the representative example of a 20S in my collection for the past two decades. Other than a small 1/8" mark on the bottom right side of the 1st casing, a small shallow ping on the top ferrule of the tuning slide, and a few micro pings and scratches on the silver plating, the rest of the horn is in flawless condition. The original case and mouthpiece have gone missing over the years, so I am including a brand new gold plated copy of a Bach Mega Tone 3C mouthpiece and a professional grade Reunion Blues leather case/ gig bag in very good condition.
Prior to the 1963 factory fire, Carl "Doc" Severinsen (Johnny Carson's bandleader on the "Tonight Show") became affiliated with Getzen, and as chief of research and development, designed the 900 Eterna and 590 Capri series of trumpets and cornets. Both series were introduced in the fall of 1964 and garnered immediate kudos. In the late 80's Getzen developed the Eterna 700 to replace the soon to be discontinued Eterna 900, as well as introducing their new professional 1200 Eterna II and top-of-the-line professional Renaissance 20 models. When the Getzen brothers took their father's company back from United Music, they created the Getzen Renaissance in order to make a statement about the level of quality previously associated with the Getzen name. Thus, in 1992 Getzen opened their new "pro shop" starting the "P" series serial number sequence. The Renaissance models were hand built by Harold Wendorf (lead trumpet of the Milwaukee Symphony) and are stamped with an "HW" on the front of the 3rd valve casing. Production lasted through 2002 when Doc Severinsen returned to help develop the current 3000 series of professional trumpets. IMHO, the Renaissance runs rings around any other model Getzen ever produced including the Eterna 900 Severinsen Model.
This Renaissance 20S is a medium weight 2 lb. - 5.8 oz. trumpet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue. The trumpet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled...its sound is big, bold, rather round, centered and focused. It is a very free and open blowing horn with a rich, dark tone that produces a sophisticated and brighter edge when pushed, and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere. This horn has excellent intonation...the low register is not flat, and is very resonant. The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation. Slots are superb. Responsive and flexible, the 20S Renaissance makes a great jazz horn, but will perform well playing commercial, classical styles, and even does well in studio sessions.Except for the aforementioned extremely minor blemishes, the trumpet is in mint condition both outside and in. The valves look like the day they came out of the factory, thus allowing the new owner to break them in utilizing their own specific finger mechanics. The rest of the trumpet functions flawlessly. You will not find a nicer Renaissance 20S out there unless you find one that's New Old Stock. I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises". So, bid with confidence as I think you'll find my feedback speaks for itself. Finish - Original polished silver and gold plate @ 100% intact. Serial # - P08XXX Bore Size - .460" medium large bore
Features - Two-piece 4-7/8" gold brass bell; reversed 1st valve slide w/ fixed thumb saddle; reversed 3rd valve slide w/ fixed ring and stop screw; gold plated top, and medium weighted (see photo #11 where one bottom cap is turned over to show the weighted insert) bottom valve caps as well as the key buttons. Accessories - Non original "Reunion Blues" leather case/ gig bag in very good condition. Also included is a brand new gold plated copy of a Bach Mega Tone 3C mouthpiece, and a trumpet stand.
Shipping is a flat fee of $40. via FedEx Home or Ground service with included insurance and signature requirement to the 48 continental states. Alaska and Hawaii require more postage. I will ship worldwide. I accept Paypal ONLY. Payment must be received within 4 days or the item will be re-listed. International Buyers - Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price nor shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. This item is being sold "As is"...no returns nor refunds will be offered unless I have somehow misrepresented the item. I do my very best to be as accurate as humanly possible in my descriptions. I am not an instrument dealer...just a musician and collector. However, bid with confidence as my feedback speaks for itself.
