| 5-course guitar by Erik Pierre Hofmann (Germolles sur Grosne, 2015), freely inspired from a model by Christoph KochThe only baroque model I occasionally engage myself in is this early five-course guitar based on the instrument made in c.1650 by Christoph Koch in Venice (collection of the Musée de la musique in Paris, inv. n° E.2090). Though I stick to the general design and very thoughtful basic set of proportions of the original, I take the liberty of using other materials, simplifying the ornaments and even changing the design of the head. After a decade or so during which I built this model from time to time, I found that the very long head enhanced the already elongated design of the guitar's body - so I finally decided to shorten it.This particular guitar is made of satinwood and rosewood. Virtually all "golden" parts of the guitar are made of satinwood, only the turned elements - i.e. the pegs and the end-button - are made of boxwood. The parchment rose is a copy of the original and was made by Elena dal Cortivo. The decorative applications on the soundboard are of my own design. The guitar displays a natural finish, based on shellac to seal the pores and pure beeswax to give a silky lustre to the back and sides.A very refined-sounding baroque guitar, mostly suited for solo repertoire and recording, although experience has proven that due to it's excellent projection, it is also suitable for continuo playing and concert. There are a few records featuring guitars after this model I made before, as well as two videos of excellent quality by the Austrian musician Pierre Pitzl. They can be found on the Tube (just google "Pitzl Valdambrini").List price is 4.000 Euro (roughly 4.500 USD at the moment), but I give 20% off, as the guitar is a demonstration model from last year and may have one or two minor flaws. There are two reasons for that: the first is that when I have a case made to measure, the result - depending on which manufacturer and options I choose - may not necessarily match the wishes of the guitar's future owner. So I prefer to leave this up to him or her. More importantly - and contrary to what most people think - as far as shipping is concerned, a hard case is your guitar's worst enemy. I am very careful and meticulous when packaging guitars, applying the idea that the guitar should simply be sealed and padded by a huge (!) amount of quality bubble-wrap, and put inside a very large and strong cardbox. The result is a light packaging, which absorbs all shocks to the outside before they can cause any damage to the instrument. I have shipped many guitars all over the planet this way and never have had any damage - but on the other side, I have seen guitars shipped inside their hard cases literally destroyed during the voyage.2) I am responsible for the quality of packaging, but not for delays in the delivery schedule due to customs services in your country or any case of force majeure. Also, please keep in mind that any shipping option taken against my explicit advice involves your responsibility. Shipping is free inside Europe, to North-America and to Japan, for any other locations please check back with me.3) Prices are non-negotiable, but I am interested in taking in payment European 18th and 19th century guitars in medium to bad condition. Check back if you have anything to propose.4) Any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.PLEASE CHECK MY OTHER ITEMS, TOO...
