Description Brand: Fender MPN: Does Not Apply Model: Tremolux Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Exact Year: 1962 UPC: Does not apply
Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Tremolux in exceptional condition, complete with the original 2x10 speaker cabinet and a pair of factory spec Oxford 10K5 speakers. This amp boasts the sweetness, tonal range, and harmonic clarity that characterizes the Fender Brownface amps, and is powered by a pair of vintage USA made JAN/Philips 6L6 power tubes. The tone is pure, dynamic Fender clean sparkle until around 4 on the Volume dial where the amp begins to get just a touch of overdrive on the notes before cascading into full tube saturation when you dime it out. The bias based tremolo circuit has an incredibly deep pulse and the EQ controls have a positively huge sweep. The circuit is extremely original, with all of the stock blue molded Ajax tone caps in the preamp, as well as the stock pots, bypass caps, and original carbon comp resistors. All of the original transformers are intact with late 1962 date codes, and these codes match the chassis stamp, pot codes, and tube chart as well. The power supply even retains the original Astron Minimite capacitors, and while a couple of the caps are visibly starting to push out on the ends, the still work exactly as intended and sound very good, so we haven't changed them, due to the 100% original nature of the circuit. The chassis itself is very clean and the brown faceplate is in fantastic shape, complete with a set of original Fender white barrel knobs. Both the head and speaker cabinet sport their original rough blonde tolex, and while the head retains its stock wheat grillcloth as well, the grill on the speaker cab has recently been replaced with the closest modern wheat equivalent. The tolex is incredibly clean on the head in particular, with some light staining on the left side of the speaker cab, and a couple spots where the sap from the knots in the original pine has caused some staining through the tolex on the right side. Overall, this Tremolux is a very impressive and studio-worthy example! The speakers are a pair of Oxford 10K5 reissues very briefly offered by Fender in the early 1990s, with the correct gold speaker frames and ceramic magnets. Both of these speakers have just been professionally reconed and sound very sweet and detailed. The tube chart is completely inside the head cabinet as well, noting the 6G9-B circuit, the last iteration before these amps transitioned to the Blackface models. The chart is very clean, with nearly unfaded paper, crisp corners, and an "LL" date code which translates to December of 1962. Almost all of the original hardware is present on both the head and cabinet, including the sphinx glides (feet), chassis straps, flat Fender logos, and piggyback clip bars. One brown molded "dog bone" handle is original on the head, while the handle on the cab is an official Fender reissue. The stock patent pending tilt back legs and original nickel corners are present as well. This Tremolux is an excellent example of Fender's Pre-CBS craftsmanship and desirable Brownface circuits. With a pair of vintage 6L6 power tubes and a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this amp is in optimal condition and would look great on stage or in the studio.
