Description
Brand: Companion (Shin-ei) Model: Amplifier Psychedelic Machine
MPN: PM-14 Country//Region of Manufacture: Japan

Vintage Companion Amplifier Psychedelic Machine, first designed by Fumio Mieda of Honey/Companion in Japan around 1967. These units were produced in a very limited number (some estimates are around 80 total pieces) between 1968-1971 by Shin-ei who took over the Honey and Companion companies in 1968. Most of those that were made were imported by a musical instrument distributor in Australia, which is why so few exist anywhere else in the world. Australia has always had a very high appreciation for Shin-ei effects - with the Resly Tone, Fuzz Wah and FY-2 Fuzz Box pedals being very popular from the very late 60's into the 70's.The Companion Amplifier Psychedelic Machine is one of the rarest effects units on earth, and arguably one of the most influential. This was what started it all for the Uni-vibe and FY-6 Super Fuzz pedals, both of whose circuits came directly out of the two primary circuits of this unit. This was the original model of both of those effects, built into a single case. The sound is comprised of two sections labelled "Mood" and "Fuzz"; and each circuit can be used individually, or combined. The Fuzz features two tone modes, plus Expander and Volume controls (same controls as seen on the Super Fuzz FY-6). The Mood Adjuster section includes Tremolo, Vibrato and Duet (Uni-Vibe Chorus) modes, each of which is controlled by a step-switch speed control for the repeats (1 second to 1/16th), plus Intensity (effect amount) and Volume knobs. The Fuzz and Mood sections are each on/off switchable via standard footswitch jack inputs on the front panel. Despite the name including the word Amplifier, this is an effects unit for your amplifier and not an amplifier head in itself. You plug your guitar in and send out to your amp as you would any standard effects unit etc.It is in perfect working order, with clean signal, pots and switches. All original circuitry inside, as pictured. This was originally factory-built in Japan for operation at 240V, and is fitted with an Australian plug. Sold as described and pictured.
