Serial Number and Octave Gear make it more alight with a Radio Improved but the Bell markings identify with a Cigar Cutter model. I have only seen 3 of these horns out there online.
From what I can gather online is that this a Transitional Model with the Serial Number 18838 Between the Selmer Super Series Cigar Cutter and the Radio Improved. Which meant Selmer used leftover parts from like the bell from a cigar cutter and the octave movement from a Radio Improved. They only did this for a select number of horns.
This was an Estate Horn, I brought it from the son of the original owner said his father won the money in a back room poker game to buy the horn from a pawn shop in New York City back in 1943 and played in USO bands when troops were Deploying or coming back from WWII so he wouldn't get drafted in the war.
The Horn will need a complete overhaul to be ready again for professional use. The Horn most likely sat for at least the last 40-50 years at the minimum. The horn still has all of the old pads on it, all the functions work, I have tried to play the horn in the current condition and it definitely has leaks, and I can not play lower than a middle G.
The horn still has a majority of it’s original lacquer I would say over 70-80% but there is Pitting.
Neck in is more of a rough shape with pitting, also the neck would need to be recorked.
Comes with a metal Selmer D Jazz Mouth Piece of the same era, as well a Period Case
