ITEM DESCRIPTION:  This is a Serbian Tamburitza made by one of the more famous and respected luthiers of his time, Bocan Lajos of Senta.   I am not at all familiar with this instrument as to its tuning or how it is played.  I know it is one of a family of Tambura instruments popular in old Yugoslavia which now consists of Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia.  This tamboritza is old and has been well played.  The strings are old and need to be replaced with new strings.  There were two bone bridges in the case and I am not sure which one is the correct bridge.  The case is very clean with a small crushed area on the back side that has been repaired.  The inside label is clearly visible in the photos.  I cannot read Croatian, but Bocan Lajos and Senta is very distinct.   There is no date or serial number that I can find.   My guess is this was made in the 1960's or 1970's.  This instrument will more than likely need to be set up and adjusted by someone who knows about these particular type of instruments.   It is in very good overall condition with some wear in the finish on the upper part of the sound board and what appears to be a tiny hair-line crack in the spruce right at the top which is so small that it is hard to photograph.  I can't tell if it is a crack or something in the grain of the spruce.    The back neck and sides are all intact without any signs of cracking or separations.  There is some corrosion on the metal plate on the headstock.   The frets all look good and the neck is straight.   Email me for specific photos if you need them.
