Selling another Hofner from my collectionThe Committee bass was only made for 2 years from 1963 to 1965, they were only made in very small numbers.              Serial numbers started at 200 and went up to 353, only 154 of them were made.1965 Hofner Committee thinline hollow electric bass, big 18 inch lower bout, 2 inch body depth, 30 inch short scale, serial number 327 + original deluxe hard case. This bass was gigged for the first 5 years of its life and is therefore not in pristine museum condition, it is however very good for a 50 year old guitar. The lacquer has checking/fine cracks in the surface, there are also many small dings and scratches all associated with age and play. There is a small area of lacquer wear on the rear upper bout. The original pickups are both strong and sound great. The neck had a professional reset about 6 or 7 years ago and is solid. The neck is straight and the action is pretty good, string height measured at the 12th fret is 3mm measured from the top of the fret to the underside of the bass E string. All the binding and inlays are all present. The binding at the waist has shrunk and separated slightly, this is very common with the celluloid binding on Hofners. The controls all work as they should but the original pots had to be replaced as they had gone past the point where they could be cleaned to get them working. Looks like at some point it has had a thumb rest fitted just above the neck pickup as there are 2 small screw holes that have been plugged. The machine heads are original and work perfectly. I've restrung it with a set of new old stock German flatwound strings that were made in the early sixties and are pretty much what would have been on it when new. It sounds great, plays well and would be a great addition to a collection, studio use or even occasionally gigged. The original case is included with the bass, it has scuffs to the surface and a lot of the tweed covering has worn away on the edges but it is the original case and is probably rarer than the bass itself.I've tried to describe accurately, pointing out both good and bad. If you are able to visit my house I welcome any trial before you bid.Cash and collection in person preferred but I will post. International bidders please be aware postage costs from the UK are very high.
