Check out my !Be sure to add me to your ! *Today I am listing yet another installment of saxophone gear which I am selling on consignment for saxophonist Frank Catalano. Today's items will include several vintage saxophone necks, many vintage mouthpieces from soprano to bari (including 3 NY Meyer alto mpcs!), and even a couple whole horns! For those of you who may not be familiar, Frank is a true heavy hitter in the jazz world and has been featured on multiple Grammy winning albums. He is also the quintessential gear hound, having amassed a collection of over 500 mouthpieces! He now endorses and plays Jody Jazz mouthpieces exclusively, so he purging some of his massive collection of mouthpieces that he has acquired over many years. There will be more to come later, so add me to your favorites list and check back later to see new additions.This auction is for a vintage Meyer Bros. mouthpiece for alto saxophone. This is the holy grail of jazz alto sax mouthpieces! Made in the 1950's, these pieces were played by countless jazz and big band altoists. They continue to be highly prized today for the excellent quality of their hard rubber. This one, alas, is not in all original condition, but it is the next best thing, having been modernized by two of the best in the business. The table was flattened and the tip opened to approximately .074" by Keith Bradbury (aka Mojo) who inscribed the side of the mouthpiece. It looks like he might have also done minor interior work to the baffle and ceiling area. The gold band on the shank was added by Eric Greiffenhagen (of "the mouthpiece guys"). The band is NOT A REPAIR. The shank was never cracked. The band was put in place pre-emptively to prevent cracking, and also to make it look like Cannonball Adderley's Meyer had a similar band added. This piece is in very good condition. The only issue to note is a very minor stress crack emanating from the tip and extending only about 1/8th on an inch back. It is super tight and should pose to problems. The tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth. There is just a hint of two tooth depressions on the beak, but they are extremely minor and certainly don't require any corrective action. With a tooth patch over the top you'd never notice them. The original markings on the mouthpiece are 4 and M by the way, so it was originally a #4 tip, and was/still is a medium chamber.
