Up for auction is a Buescher Grand True-Tone trumpet (serial number 46132). This puts the date of manufacture in mid 1918, meaning that this must have been one of the last horns built for the military before the end of the first world war! The bore of the horn is .438". The bell is 4 1/4". The engraving is crisp and clean, and reads "Buescher Gd./ Elkhart/ Ind./ USQMC". USQMC stands for the United States Quartermasters Corps, which used to be a division of the U.S. Army. The stamp on the side of the valve casing reads "True Tone/ Trade mark/ Registered/ LP/ 46132/ 9". This horn looks beautiful and plays very well. The valves feel very mechanically sound with almost no wiggle from side to side. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few scratches and a some small dings, and the stop nuts on the pull to A rod are not original. I believe that the finger buttons have also been replaced. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now--if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This trumpet has a non-standard receiver, and it comes with a period Rudy Muck Cushion Rim 19 C mouthpiece (pictured) which fits it properly, and a worn case. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
