An excellent concert quality guitar built in 2012, “Amalia” utilizes the plantilla and bracing pattern of the Spanish master luthier, José Romanillos. This design features three open harmonic bars and seven fan braces for the soundboard, an eighteen-hole bridge and the classic “V” joint for the neck/headstock join. The rosette is a handmade replica of a 1931 Francisco Simplicio with coordinated top purfling and tieblock overlay. The projection and sustain are outstanding with crisp, clear trebles and excellent separation. It is a very easy to play instrument. A short audio clip can be heard here: This particular instrument was recently taken back as partial trade for another Gourlay-built guitar. It is nearly indistinguishable from new with no cracks, dents, dings, or scratches other than minor, normal use handling marks.
