As the story goes, in the 1970s the New York Board of Eduction ordered 6.5"x14" 10 Lug Ludwig Acrolites for their music programs across the city, in the 80s and 90s some of these special Acrolites leaked out to the public via city auctions/sales/etc. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE RARE 6.5" ACROLITES!!! Posted for your immense delight is this terrific sounding and FAMOUSLY RARE Vintage 1971 Ludwig B/O Badge 10 LUG, DEEP 6.5" X 14" Acrolite Snare from the NEW YORK BOARD OF EDUCATION that is in EXCELLENT Condition!!!. Check out the pictures! Some typical wear on the hoops/hardware, the shell has some scratching on it. But, it's my understanding that anyone who made it through the NYC public school system has some scratching on them as well.
CHECK OUT THE INTERIOR OF THE SHELL!!! It has the Ludwig paper tag with the manufacturing date on it, and it was marked "BD of ED NYC 1971"!!!And yes, this is a TEN LUG ACROLITE!!
SOUNDFILE COMING AS SOON AS ONE IS RECORDED!!! Here are the lovely specs: Ultra Rare USA MADE Vintage Ludwig Blue Olive Badge 6.5" X 14" Acrolite Snare Drum, smoooooth round muffler works perfectly, Ludwig P-85 throwoff (is upgraded to a more modern P-85) works great, 10 Classic Ludwig Bow Tie lugs. Mild scratches on the shell but nothing terrible, some typical wear on the hoops/hardware. Overall Very Good Condition for being 45 years old.
A great sounding drum!! The Serial # reads 891410. Every drummer who is alive should own this drum. Yes it's that good. I've always liked the Acrolite better than the Supraphonic. Maybe it's the darker tone. I seem to gravitate towards the darker snares. Tons of straight up attack with a hint of darkness. AND THIS BEING THE RARE 10 LUG, IT CAN BE A NICE ADDITION TO YOUR COLLECTION EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN 8 LUG ACROLITE!!!
It's DEEPER, darker and has more low end beef and body than the 5", and it still has that inimitable ACROLITE DRYNESS.
Perfect for everything. Live, session. Everything. And if you own a Vintage B/O Ludwig Kit, reunite this snare with it's brethren and welcome the serenity that will descend. So do yourself a favor and grab this ULTRA RARE Vintage 1971 Ludwig Blue/Olive Badge 6.5" X 14" Ludwig Acrolite Snare made for the NEW YORK BOARD OF EDUCATION! AND HANG ONTO IT!!! It's not the easiest Ludwig to find.
