Gibson Hummingbird 2010 Honeyburst with K+K Pure Mini and Grover Locking TunersThis Gibson Hummingbird was my first grown up guitar. It's been on the road with me week in and week out for almost seven years. It shows that road wear, I'll not lie, but it has been maintained all along the way by a couple of venerable luthiers from up here in Minnesota.
The neck is great, there have been no headstock breaks and although there's some wear and tear, the only major chip it has was a small piece taken out of the lower bout (As I was bending over to verify some Led Zeppelin signatures on the wall at KSTP... Turned out to be forged!), which was filled and buffed asap. There is a little arm wear on the upper bout, which has also turned dark - I believe this to be from the black corduroy jackets that I always wore... It'll probably buff off easy. No body cracks anywhere. It's been humidity controlled at home, at the studio and practice space. On the road it always traveled with Planet Waves Humidification packs. As I had used it on the road, it's had some changes made to suit my style and needs. The LR Baggs element was replaced with a K+K Pure Mini, which I install in all of my acoustics because I haven't come across a more honest sounding pickup in all 23 years I've been performing. It's hooked up to the Element pre-amp, so you still have the control and no change was made to the jack socket.
I had intonation issues with the low E (I always use alternate tunings, so was usually tuned D, or C) and it was tested and fixed by adding a small chip up by the nut - All my intonation issues went away - It's not pretty, but it works (Which is really all that matters when you're performing!)
The other thing I did was add a set of locking tuners - Grover, chrome, tulip tuners - they look great and they shaved off a ton of time for me when I needed to change strings.I've been stringing it up with EJ19's - the "Bluegrass" type - essentially 12's but with a 56 on top.No case with this, but if it comes down to a fistfight over a few dollars, we can figure something out - I use a Hiscox dreadnought case for international travel and a Tric case for local shows. Both are great, which is why I don't want to give them up and the price of the guitar is adjusted accordingly. There's no real need for me to tell you how this sounds, because Gibson dreadnoughts do exactly as dreadnoughts are supposed to! Solid sitka spruce top - It's got tons of low end and sparkles when needed. I've used it for the last seven years for traditional Irish music, both fingerstyle and that Celtic, high energy rhythm. I've also used it on rock recordings and in fact it has been my go-to studio guitar for it's entire life. It's moving on because I've been playing electric in a new band and it's time for it to make it's mark with someone else on the road.If you want an undisputed classic, that's a little frayed from the road, but is solid and has never been abused, this is the one for you. Check the pictures for details of it's wear and tear.Make an offer, but seriously, it's priced well already for it's condition.
