Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Stratocaster '57 reissue American Vintage "Thin Skin" electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This limited edition Strat was one of only 180 instruments produced and offers a few key upgrades over the standard American Vintage series Fender instruments, including a "thin skin" nitro lacquer finish and a modern 9 1/2" fretboard radius with 6105 fretwire. The thin skin finish is notable for letting the instrument resonate and breathe more freely, delivering a more complex and clear acoustic tone that truly does translate through the stock black bobbin single coil pickups! At 7lbs 12oz, this Strat balances well on a strap, and has the feel and presence of the genuine vintage article, with plenty of sparkle, jangle, and cut. The neck pickup is particularly smooth and round sounding, perfect for overdriving for favorite tube amp and delivering articulate, singing lead lines. There's plenty of quack and snap if you carefully position the three-way pickup selector to capture those coveted "in between" tones, and the bridge pickup has enough twang and snarl to satisfy the most demanding Strat player. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this guitar with 10-46 strings and comfortable action. The neck has a quintessential V shaped profile, with well rounded shoulders and ideal girth to retain the classic V feel while still being quite substantial. The 6105 fretwire has slightly more height and width than a typical '50s Strat and combined with the slightly flatter 9 1/2" fretboard radius, this guitar allows for effortless bending in the higher registers without choking out your notes. These tiny player-friendly tweaks to the original Fender recipe will be appreciated by die hard purists too, and the feel of the neck is still decidedly "vintage" and intuitive. The frets are in truly fantastic shape, with barely a hint of wear on the perfectly rounded crowns. The neck is arrow straight, and plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the stock plastic nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone, and the 1 11/16" nut width leaves plenty of room for comfortable chording and accurate lead work. Additionally, the headstock boasts a period correct "spaghetti" Stratocaster waterslide decal, and a set of reissue Kluson-style tuners that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics work as they should, and the aged plastic hardware is in immaculate condition. The single-ply white pickguard, stately two-tone brown/black sunburst finish, and chrome six point vibrato all adhere strictly to vintage Fender spec, and the vibrato unit in particular has a very stiff and reliable feel with its original arm. Currently the vibrato is set flat to the body with four springs installed, but could easily be tweaked for more subtle operation.
Cosmetically, this guitar is in fantastic shape, with very faint lacquer checking across the entire body and neck. There is one tiny ding through the finish on the treble side waist of the body, and a few assorted extremely minimal nicks behind the bridge and on the back of the guitar, but overall this guitar has been exceptionally well cared for, especially given the thin nitro finish! The original hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags, case candy, and signed COA.
