Up for sale, a 1964 Guyatone "Orlando" branded VN-4 baritone electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in good working order. Also seen under the equally obscure "Demain" and "Lindell" names, the VN-4 was produced only for one year in Japan's famed Fujigen factory, with a 26 1/2" scale that was reactionary to the Fender Bass VI released just two years earlier. While this guitar can easily be tuned E to E, it also excels when drop tuned B to B, with a deep, resonant hollow twang and a wide array of pickup options. From thick, guttural chunk to jangle and snap, the sounds one can eek out of this Guyatone are truly astounding. This baritone guitar weighs in at 7lbs 6oz and has been setup with comfortable action and 11-50 strings. The neck has a chunky, round baseball bat C shaped profile with a 19 fret neck and bound rosewood fretboard. While the neck profile feels substantial and solid, it's still very easy to chord and the very slender original fretwire is in remarkable shape, with virtually no wear. The stock plastic nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width and a string retainer assures proper break angle for optimal tuning stability. The original open back tuners are intact on the headstock and turn very smoothly with original white buttons and plastic ferrules. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with rocker switches for individually engaging each of the four single coil pickups, and Master Volume and Tone dials. The third switch in the first bank is a mute switch, while the third switch in the second bank engages a tone shift that brightens things up a bit. The original chrome pickguards are stunningly clean, and the stickers adjacent to the controls are also completely intact, another testament to the incredible condition of this vintage guitar. The original roller bridge is present, and this guitar came stock from the factory with a Hagstrom vibrato unit, which works well for surfy warbles, although a vibrato arm is not included.Cosmetically, this guitar retains its original vibrant three-color sunburst finish and the chrome hardware shows virtually no wear aside from a few light scratches in the pick path. There are some minor scuffs and nicks mostly relegated to the back of the guitar, but otherwise, there is very little wear of note, and this rare Guyatone has clearly been well cared for over the past 50+ years.
A gigbag is included.
