It's with a heavy heart that I offer for sale this wonderful instrument. A 1950's three octave vintage vibraphone made by MUSSER. It's a "portable" ONE-NITER model in superb "ready to play" condition. I bought this about 10 years ago from Century Mallets in Chicago and had it shipped over here along with a pre war Deagan concert marimba. Both instruments had undergone extensive refurbishment by the craftsmen at Century who are considered amongst the best in their field, anywhere. Since purchasing it the vibraphone has sat in my personal studio and has never been gigged so is in more or less the same condition as when renovated. It has three octaves of aluminium bars, a variable speed motor and a collapsible frame, it's probably as portable as it gets.Work carried out during the refurb included polishing and tuning the bars (as far as I know it's at A440), repainting resonators & frame (there is a MUSSER heraldic decal and badge on the frame), new rubbers, cord & felts (possibly new pins, not sure about that), new belt, and the motor was stripped, serviced and rewired with a new mains cable fitted. Basically everything that could be done was done, by the best in the business. There is slight tarnish on some chrome work and this is a vintage instrument so is not totally flawless but is probably as good as it gets. It is US voltage and the mains cable terminates in a socket adaptor for any standard transformer (I sold mine with a pair AMPEX preamps so the buyer will need to get one of these). The sound? Well it sounds like a MUSSER vibraphone. Tremendous rich vintage tone. Beautiful vibrato, it basically sounds correct. A professional instrument in every sense and quite rare to find over here in this condition, for the right person or studio this is an amazing opportunity.I will deliver it by hand anywhere in mainland UK included in the asking price, otherwise by negotiation. You are very welcome to come and see and try the instrument prior to purchase. I am happy to liase with your courier and can try and get a price for international shipping although this will be expensive. The frame and resonators pack into a very large non period MUSSER cardboard box and I would pack the bars separately for safety. Please contact me with any questions or queries prior to making an offer. The Deagan marimba, having enjoyed the same renovation, and a set of vintage Deagan orchestral bells/ Glock with polished nickel bars and oak case may also be for sale.
