Up for sale, a 1952 Epiphone Zephyr model E322 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This pre-Gibson New York made Epi delivers an incredibly expressive and detailed tone, with great clarity and midrange-forward sweetness characteristic of one of the finest eras of Epiphone production. With a neck position "New York" single coil pickup, this Zephyr compliments complex Jazz chord voicings with great string to string balance and a sweet, bell-like top end. The 17 3/8" lower bout, figured maple top, and maple back and sides are the perfect recipe for both a dynamic acoustic tone and a rich electric sound, and at only 6lbs 12oz, this quite the light instrument too. Professionally setup and strung with nickel 11-50 roundwound strings, this Zephyr is dialed in with comfortable action. The mahogany neck has a generous and deep soft V profile which grows only slightly in depth as you move up the fretboard, with a very solid and substantial feel. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has been refretted with wire that has a similar slender width and modest height compared to the original fretwire. These frets currently show moderate, uniform wear on frets 1-3, lighter flattening of the fret crowns on frets 4-6, and no notable wear further up the board. Playing cleanly in all registers, this guitar has no untoward buzzes or dead spots, and the neck has been very cleanly reset in the guitar's lifetime, with plenty of height at the bridge for decades of future adjustment. There is wear into the rosewood board as well on frets 1-5, and this doesn't affect playability in the slightest. On the headstock, the original metal Epiphone badge is intact, along with the early metal truss rod cover, signifying the first year that Epiphone moved their truss rod adjustment access point to the headstock. The original nickel Epsilon tuners are intact with clean and lightly greened molded buttons. These tuners are some of the most elegant and well made vintage gears from any manufacturer, with an extremely smooth and reliable feel and performance. The electronics are original and untouched, with a stock wiring harness and the original wax molded tone capacitor visible through the treble side F hole. On the other side of the instrument, the clean blue and white Epi label is visible through the bass side F hole. The stock hardware is completely intact as well with the exception of the pickguard, and the pointer knobs, nickel tailpiece, and adjustable Brazilian rosewood floating bridge are present. In terms of cosmetic wear, this Epiphone has been lovingly played and well cared for over the decades, with a rich and vibrant original nitro lacquer sunburst on the top and deep brown back and sides. There is no touchup or overspray on the finish, and the body is crack-free, with faint lacquer checking across the top, back, and sides. On the back there are a few expected light scuffs, and also some assorted tiny nicks from honest use on the body as a whole. Additionally, there is an extra strap button hole on the neck heel, and one small hole central to the back of the headstock which doesn't go through the face. the original binding is intact on the entire instrument and in remarkable shape, with no notable shrinkage.
The original hardshell case is included. This case has a purple interior, faux alligator exterior, and new handle. There are also a few vintage pinup stickers of modest size on the exterior which are undeniably cool and of the era of the guitar's production.
