1949 Buescher Lightweight 400 “Top Hat and Cane” Bb trumpet for auction/sale. This is a beautiful and extremely straight and clean example of this model. This is a great sounding horn with a warm tone and sparkles when you put some gas to it. This trumpet was apparently refinished sometime in the past. It appears to me that it was refinished with old-type cellulose lacquer or an amazing imitation. The bell engraving is still crisp and sharp and even with close inspection one wonders if the finish is actually original! The third valve slide works quickly and smoothly. With close inspection of the pictures you can see a few spots of missing lacquer mainly on the third valve slide and hand contact points. There are also some areas with spotting/darkening of the finish. All the valve serial numbers match the horn and all the valves are smooth and fast with excellent plating. I would describe the valve compression as very good with the original 3-point guides. I think the valve springs are original stainless steel - but don’t know for sure. There is one small dent on the side of the bell opposite the tuning slide. This trumpet comes with the original case and a vintage Buescher Duo-Cup 88-D mouthpiece.
