Up for auction is a vintage (serial number 100235) King "Fidelio" model 2269 Double French Horn. This instrument is in very good condition and plays very well. The valves move very well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some small dings and pings and some light scratching and pitting throughout the instrument. The bell throat has some very light scarring as well.. There are also a few patches of discoloration on the instrument. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. The engraving on the bell reads "KING/ 2269/ USA". This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn has had the old lacquer removed to improve its tone, as well as for aesthetics. Therefore this horn is finished in pure brass, and fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a worn hardshell case and a mouthpiece in good condition. How the horn plays: Full, bright and colorful sound; the tone is variable, either smooth and rich when playing melodically or raw and edgy when desired; the horn is very responsive and free-blowing; the high and low registers speak well; the horn had a good dynamic range; Bb side a bit brighter than the F sideAll horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N.
