This is 2003 Les Paul Historic R9. Purchased in Japan but I do not remember which shop. I am the original owner and have been playing it since 2004.
2003 Historics are generally considered a good year. It has Madagascar rosewood board and Eastern maple top, which are highly desirable features in these days Fijian Mahogany and Indian Rosewood equipped Les Pauls.
Madagascar Rosewood is as close to Brazilian Rosewood as can be found. Both are harder and more rigid than Indian Rosewood. Gibson used MRW early to mid 2000s but not anymore.
The finish is nicely worn and thin enough to feel the wood. The top has some mineral streaks, which is very common on the original 50s Les Paul. Fret conditions are fine. It has never been refretted.Specs:
