Yamaha YTS 23 Made in Japan Tenor Saxophones are Band Director Approved! Don't worry about your band director saying you bought the wrong saxophone if you buy this model.
Overall this saxophone looks good. Pads are in good shape, the sax is in pretty good adjustment overall. Finish is OK, there are several scratches throughout and some small dings, but noting major to affect the tone, all very typical of a used student saxophone. (see photos). It's plays well as is.The case is not an original Yamaha case, must have been an aftermarket case. It is a plastic shell case with a nice plush interior to protect the sax. Also has a pad saver.
This is the perfect sax for a beginning saxophone player at a price where you won't be taking a big hit (like buying a new one) if your young student decides to stop playing it. These models sold new in the $1,500 range. It does not come with a mouthpiece, neck strap or cleaning supplies. Those items are usually better purchased at your local music store - they can guide you through the best options available for your student.
