Description Type: Vintage Equalizer Model: 9072a Brand: Altec Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Designed by Arthur C. Davis, this is one of the great vintage passive equalizers. Motown's Head of Engineering Mike McLean copied the exact circuit of this unit, and added an input transformer, gain control, in/out switch, line amplifier, and output transformer to create the very robust legendary Motown Graphic Equalizer. This Altec Type 9072A unit is essentially the same device marketed by the original Langevin company as the Type EQ 252 A. Seven linear motion switches provide +/- 8 dB peak/dip controls in 1 dB steps at 50, 130, 320, 800, 2000, 5000, and 12500 Hz. The filter bandwidth, at 1.5 octave frequency spacing, results, interactively, in very smooth frequency response curves. When all controls are set at any same setting, the resulting response is virtually flat. This unit has classic 600/600 Ohm bridged-T attenuator unbalanced design. I have other similar Altec EQs, please inquire about more.
