1953, 63 years ago, before Rock'n'Roll, Gretsch were a small New York manufacturer of semi hollow guitars. Two years later the Rock'n'Roll boom started and Gretsch followed suit and the Electromatic and its variants became one of the most popular guitars and it remains to this day a very desirable brand and model, and possibly is the oldest design in continuous production. The beautiful guitar was made in 1953. It's a 6187-8 and it in  time warp condition. Few guitars of this age are around, never mind in this condition. The few flaws it has are photographed for sake of clarity. There is a bezel missing from the machine head pictured, the neck join where the non adjustable truss rod sits is visible and the laquer is cracked along this line. There is a small scratch on the upper bout and the tailpiece is slightly tarnished, but we have made no attempt to polish it , just preserve the natural patina. It has zero fret wear, and has been strung with D'Addario Chromes, 11-52 gauge. It has a period case , made by Frost & Stone, finished in faux crocodile skin rexine. The case is in fair condition but the catches have some surface corrosion. Original and unmarked headstock face with Traff-o-lyte faceplate, engraved Gretsch and Electromatic. The fingerboard appears to be ebony and it has block inlays. To the best of our knowledge everything including the special Gretsch / DeArmond pickups are original.
