Up for sale, a 1975 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail, honestly played, well maintained, and very original where it counts. This no-nonsense Strat has a thick, powerful tone, with the midrange punch and snap associated with a solid ash body, and at only 6lbs 14oz, this Strat is decidedly on the lighter side when it comes to the majority of '70s Strats on the market. Outfitted with three gray bobbin pickups, there's plenty of jangle and snap in the bridge position, with quack and cut in the 2 and 4 positions, and plenty of woof and thickness from the neck single coil. The string through body and hardtail construction has a decidedly different tone than a trem block equipped Strat, and the acoustic resonance and sustain can't be beat! Professionally setup and strung with 11-50 roundwound strings, this Strat is dialed in and ready for stage and studio work. The neck has a medium C shaped profile that has a surprising amount of chunk and roundness, with full shoulders and a rosewood fretboard. Cleanly refretted with jumbo fretwire, this Strat currently shows no fretwear with well rounded crowns and decades of future life. The guitar plays very easily up the neck and this Strat is the kind of guitar that wants to be played hard, with a substantial feeling maple neck that is arrow straight and reliable. The nut measures a full 1 5/8" and is a hand carved piece of bone that improves the overall sustain and string to string clarity of the instrument. On the headstock, the original Stratocaster logo is present, and the tuners are a set of the Schaller-made F tuners that Fender used in the later '70s. There is evidence of another tuner set being on this guitar in the past, and the F tuners cover up any extra mounting holes. All of the electronics work as they should, with three gray bobbin single coil pickups wired to a five-way pickup selector switch. The neck and middle pickups are original to the guitar, while the bridge pickup is an era correct replacement that balances well in terms of output and tone with the stock pickups. The Volume and one Tone pot date to mid '74, while the second Tone pot is a modern replacement. The stock knobs, switch tip, and neck/middle pickup covers are intact, while the pickguard is a genuine Fender guard from the early '90s. The bridge pickup route has been moderately enlarged and the middle pickup route deepened as seen in the photos, but this is of course completely covered by the pickguard. All of the metal hardware is original too, with stock string ferrules, jack cup, hardtail bridge, and three-bolt F neck plate. While the F plate actually dates back to late '73, the neck date stamp is from early '75 and it's not uncommon to see a date spread this wide on Fender's from this era.Cosmetically, this guitar shows an assortment of small nicks and dings on the body from honest use over the decades, yet retains the original finish on both the body and neck. There are dings on the neck profile as well that are minor and shallow mostly behind frets 1-7, and naturally these don't affect playability in the slightest. The ash body has a very prominent grain pattern and the clear coat has yellowed moderately to give the ash a rich ambered appearance.
A molded late '70s Fender hardshell case is included.
