Here is a rare opportunity to get a 58 explorer body with all of the right routes, placements, shapes and materials that hasn't ever been offered before except by legendary builders such as Max B and Terry M. This guitar body was custom made by me in our shop to tribute an original 58 explorer. It can be used to upgrade a Gibson Historic Explorer 58 to the right body shape and routes or be a good platform for a custom instrument. The material is Korina, 1 solid piece with 50s style grain pattern and color. I was lucky enough to visit with 2 original 58 explorers in the past years as well as a Michael Stevens and a Max guitar. I traced and mic'd all 4 instruments and after modifying 5 versions of the plans I created, used a Cnc machine to construct a set of pin router templates that make a perfect body. From there, I created a CNC program that will complete a 58 explorer body but with tighter tolerances than a pin router is capable of. This is the first CNC explorer body and it has one small blemish in then I joint where the fretboard, neck and body meet. There was a tiny piece that tore out on the body that I grafted with a piece of Korina from the same piece. It's hardly noticeable but it was a learning experience and the feed rate on the machine has been modified now so that this doesn't happen again. This is not a product we will be offering for sale, it is a blem and will be the only body offered for sale.
