This listing is very special. It is for the rare and interesting early version of what became the popular Roland Space Echo RE-201.  This one is unique in that it has a reloadable tape cartridge called the Sony Endless Tape RE-5 that can be reloaded with standard 1/4" tape when it wears out vs. the 8 track tape the RE-201 uses.  Functionally this is being sold as-is only because I'm not the original owner and don't know much about its history. I can say that it spits out echo when fed signal and all knob settings work. So it works. The motor sounds good and was apparently overhauled by Roland according to the previous owner. Once again I can't guarantee this. It's what I was told.  I am shipping the tape in a separate bag (pictured) so that it doesn't stretch out or get ruined during shipping. You unscrew the little pin and just fasten it to the device, very straight forward to put back on. There is a little diagram on how to thread it on the unit. Follow the dotted line.
One of the things I love about this unit is that it has a standby switch for turning off the motor when not in use. This saves your heads and the tape. Very cool!
The tape was spliced by the previous owner or whoever they had it serviced by and when it hits that part in the tape you hear a little lower level signal for a sec. Sounds cool to me but could probably be remedied by re-splicing the tape. One could also experiment with the length of the loop as different lengths would put different amounts of tension across the heads and can result in a different tone to the echoes.  For those who haven't used tape delay much or not at all, it's a different beast than any other delay. The repeats can often times be unpredictable and pitch modulated. I find this machine to induce quite a bit of modulation on its repeats. Once again this may be desirable or remedied by playing around with the length of the loop.  Cosmetically, it has a decent amount of smudges and scrapes from age. Missing one knob cap piece, not the whole knob (see pic). Has some text written on the tape transport area (see pic). May have had some writing on top but was scribbled over with a marker. Not so noticeable. The handle for the little door that holds the power cord does need to be handled with care when opening. It just takes a little extra effort. Overall I'd give it a high 7 or low 8.  117v USA power ready Let me know if you have any questions before bidding/buying I WILL NOT RETURN THIS ITEM  BE SURE THAT YOU WANT A VINTAGE MACHINE BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING
