ALTUS 907E FLUTE This is a Altus 907E flute very beautiful. Altus flutes use an improved William Bennett scale that features a specially soldered C# tone hole, no other flute maker does this for intermediate flutes. The head joint is solid silver with hand cut solid silver lip plate. The body and keys are silver plated. The Altus has a great mechanism, quick and light action. It has a great sound throughout the registers. Altus was founded by a former Muramatsu employed craftsman and you can hear the Muramatsu tradition in the full dark sound of every Altus. But Shuichi Tanaka went further in his commitment to quality and research. Tanaka has been inspired by the early flute makers such as Louis Lot and this is evident in his seamed tube flute model 1607. I have played Altus 807, 907, 1007, 1207 and 1607 and have been impressed by all of the Altus flutes that I have played, these are simply great instruments! Tanaka is not the only flute maker inspired by Louis Lot. Muramatsu also made a special edition Louis Lot model many years ago. The Haynes French models first produced in the late 1920s were copies of Louis Lots. The Yamaha 881 hand made flute was also inspired by the Louis Lot flutes. Here is a little information about me.

I went and studied with Jonathan Landell in New England. I then took the Straubinger pads course, studied for a year a technical college in Osaka, and also studied with a retired flute maker from Yamaha. Over the past ten years I have cleaned, repaired, repadded and sold many flutes. I have also worked on clarinets and saxophones as well.

I have worked on Muramatsu, Sankyo, Altus, Miyazawa, Powell, Haynes, Yamaha, McKenna, and Azumi flutes just to name a flute. I cannot honestly tell you who makes the best flute.
People come in different sizes as well as shapes and what feels comfortable to one player does not feel that way to another player. No embrochure is exactly the same and tastes change.

What I can tell you is that I test all the flutes that I send out for leaks and make sure the flute is mechanically as perfect as it can be for the price we are charging. We sell used flutes, some of them are almost new with almost no wear at all, we calls them "closet flutes" and probably were bought by over zealous parents for a fickle child who hid the instrument in the drawer after deciding the flute was not for them. Their loss your gain!

I doubt that any instrument repair technician can adjust a flute perfectly and some players can be very finicky. I have had two players of equal abilty test the same flute and yet the feedback is completely different! But if you check my reviews you see people who have bought more than one professional level flute from me and are extremely happy.  Sadly, there are always one or two cases of misunderstanding or overly picky people that cannot be pleased at all. "Why does the 1880 Louis Lot have scratches?"

Prices on eBay are deflated in that the true market or street value of the instrument is always more than what you pay here. We accept returns of course, everyone does, but we do prefer that if you are buying a flute that you really know what you are looking for. It really is not fair to say, "oh my teacher said that is the wrong model!"  Of course we will accept the return but that person should have asked their teacher first.

I really advise anyone buying a flute to research the cost of buying the equivalent flute brand new and you will see that a good quality flute is not cheap and that you really are getting a deal here. Even if the flute does not measure up to the demands of someone like James Galway or Emmanual Pahud or you, getting the adjustment done by your trusted instrument repair technician yourself still means you got a deal since the price is so far below the real value of the instrument!

Please take look at my reviews and judge for yourself. Here are the specifications for the flute:
