The original Fender Bass V was a quirky and unusual electric bass guitar model produced by Fender between 1965 and 1970. It was the world's first five-string bass guitar, which is almost a standard for today. The Fender Bass V is unusual in its dimensions: although it is three inches longer than a P-Bass, the Fender Bass V has only 15 frets. A high C string was added to a combination of traditional Fender body designs. (At the time, not much about electric bass construction was traditional because it was still a new technology.) The idea behind the top C string was to enable reading bass players to get to the high notes on the instrument easily, without having to go up the neck. The top note on the instrument is E-flat which is the same top note as a standard 20-fret 4 string Jazz or Precision bass. This 1966 bass was recently set-up by a top Hollywood guitar shop (Eric's Guitar) It is ready to play or perfect for a collection. It has been strung with a low B, to accommodate modern playing preferences. It has been refinished in Sonic Blue nitrocellulose Lacquer (expensive process) The paint is the same as the original paint that was used in 1966.  This guitar will wear and patina just the same as it did back when it was made.  I went with Lacquer instead of polyurethane because I wanted the bass to age again. One of roughly 200 ever made by Fender.I have started a owners group on Facebook for the Fender Bass "V", please check it out and let me know if you own one so I can add you to the list.  I would like to find all the Bass "V"'s out there and document them to some extent. The following world famous players have owned a Fender Bass V:James Jamerson, Motown legendJohn Paul Jones of Led ZeppelinC.F.
