Description Number of Keys: 88 Number of Pedals: 2 Brand: Bechstein Country/Region of Manufacture: Germany
A lovely Bechstein Grand Piano Model V, manufactured around 1902 and reconditioned and sold by Harrods around 1944. It was restored again about 12 years ago with new strings and new felts, etc. It's a very powerful instrument with a vibrant base and a bell-like treble and plays beautifully. It measures approximately 6ft 7inches deep and 4ft 10inches wide (201cm x 147cm)It has an etched number in the wooden frame underneath of 20436 and a Harrods' number of H 50042 but I can't find a number on the cast iron frame itself. I'm told that this was often removed by the restorer, possibly by Harrods. It has a motif on the wooden frame under the strings with a long list of foreign royal appointments and the English one at the bottom is Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll.Underneath it says, Manufactured expressly for the tropics.Collection only from Burgess Hill, near Brighton, West Sussex.
