This bassoon was mildly used and put into hibernation. Sold with the original Cooper documentation that came with this bassoon.
The bassoon in original condition, virtually untouched, having been played mildly.
Both the original wood finish and silver plating are in excellent condition. With a bassoon of this class in this condition, the original finish and markings has been maintained after restauration.
The original style of figuring preserved, and the requisite hand rubbed finish to match the original.
There is only the slightest evidence of use.
This is the highest quality bassoon. Restoring a bassoon of this quality, with the added 40+ years of seasoning, creates a bassoon of superior stability and reliability. For those of you who desire this vintage of Puchner, with it's traditional "Puchner" sonic character, this restored #72xx, represents a truly enviable opportunity!
Original keywork/Ursprüngliche keywork:
- High D and E, w/A link, Eb trill- Rt. hand whisper lock, Ab-Bb trill, rollers on front F#, and full rollers on Rt. thumb- Rollers on D/C long joint. They changed these from the original endless rollers to the present enclosed style, with additional minimized C touch. They found the endless rollers very uncomfortable, as the sharp edges would tend to cut into the thumb joint.- Metal bell ring
Following are the declarations of this restoration:
- Bassoon is completely disassembled- Wood bores are smoothed and given a full oil treatment.- Worn areas prepared, stained and figured as needed to match original finish- Entire body treated w/4-5 coats of Acrylic lacquer and hand rubbed to the original traditional lustre- U-tube bracket is sealed and dated w/ a lifetime process- Tone holes and chimneys are checked and adjusted as needed for levelness and smoothness, then sealed- Tone holes on base and bell are undercut, smoothed and sealed- All keywork is polished, preserved, and refitted as necessary, maintaining the highest standards.- Teflon is laminated to all sliding bearings, which significantly enhances the action- "Greenbacks" are used, exclusively, on the wing. This creates the ultimate vacuum and allows the lightest action. A link is set to flick.- Balance of pads are high quality white, special riveting process, and sealed. Again, a high vacuum is maintained so to allow a lighter action- Precise regulation of key action, and adjusting of pad heights.- The original Cooper tuning is given credence, and further tuning if needed. The bassoon is play tested by 2 professional players.
