Up for sale, a 1961 "Custom Kraft" Model 4155 hollowbody electric guitar, manufactured by Kay in the USA and 100% original right down to the flat-head screws! This guitar has a very similar feel and look to a Kay Swingmaster or Stratotone Jupiter, with a black sparkle finish and checkerboard binding on the top, back and neck. Custom Kraft guitars were created for St Louis Music (a heavyweight guitar distributor) and these particular instruments were only available from 1961-62 in a series that was dubbed the "Dynamic Color" line. Very hard to find in any condition, this particular example is as clean as they come and has been professionally setup with 10-46 strings and comfortable, slinky action. The tone is pure early Rock & Roll jangle, with balanced and strong output from both single coil pickups and plenty of twang on tap for playing your favorite Duane Eddy licks. The neck has a medium C profile bordering on the chunky side, 1 11/16" nut width and the stock brass fretwire shows virtually no wear, playing well all the way up the neck. You just can't beat the medieval looking lion headstock logo, and the stock open-back tuners with lollipop buttons all turn smoothly and work well. On the body, the electronics are original, with untouched solder joints, paper in oil tone caps, and pots that turn smoothly without any crackle. The Centralab pots date to the 31st week of 1961. The rosewood bridge has plenty of room left for future adjustment as well, and all hardware is original including the aluminum baton switch tip and quad of DeArmond made transparent reflector cap knobs. This is absolutely one of the coolest looking vintage USA instruments we've had in the shop in a good while, and the combination of shiny chrome pickup covers, black sparkle finish and checkerboard bound body definitely stands out. Cosmetically, the guitar is particularly clean, with few tiny finish scuffs and a spot or two of light wear around the headstock edges, but no serious wear of any kind.Light as a feather, resonant and clear, this Custom Kraft 4155 won't last long! The original two-tone blonde/gray chipboard case is included. The case is near mint, with original latches, handle, and blue felt interior.
