I am auctioning my lovely Oberheim Xpander synthesizer. An icon for connoisseurs of traditional, analog subtractive synthesis, it was ahead of its time when it was created (1984), due to its extensive modulation options offered, plus a large selection of filters (15 types). It is a 6-voice polyphonic and multi-timbral synth, known for its warm, rich character, which tended to pulverize the dominating synth of that era, the infamous Yamaha DX-7. Its predecessors were other icons such as the 4-Voice, OBX, OBXa and OB8, and  some "purists" may complain that its sound is "cleaner" by comparison, but you can coax the growling beast out of it with proper editing which, by the way, is done with a very intuitive front panel. Although not a knob-per-function affair, it is actually very intuitive, and I managed to really get into its intricacies without reading the manual, which BTW I will include. Tom Oberheim recently created a current iteration of his poly synths with the help of Dave Smith, the OB6, but unfortunately it is much more limited in its choice of filters and modulation options. I have listened to it, and I have to say, the Xpander can chew it up and spit it out!  This one was serviced in late August by a regional synth guru, Mike Jay, from Pro Audio Electronics, in Tampa FL, and it received > $900-worth of repairs, which included replacement of defective capacitors and of the memory battery. It works like a charm, and sounds gorgeous. Cosmetically it is at least a 9/10, I'd say. You are welcome to pick it up if you live in North Florida or South Georgia, but otherwise I'll ship it by UPS ground, insured. It is a big, heavy baby, so s/h will be an additional $100. I do not offer refund option, due to unpleasant, prior experiences of buyers eviscerating the purchased instrument to swap components for their own non-functional synths, then claiming it was broken, HOWEVER, I guarantee this thing will be 100% functional on arrival and, if well-cared-for, years ahead. If this is not the case, please contact me and we will work something out.
Bid with confidence, folks.

The tuning works for all different components, not just the VCO's.2.- This one appears to be American-made, based on a particular characteristic: The letters are above the jack ports on the rear panel. I don't know if this is an accurate assessment, I'm just going by something I read on Gearslutz. Otherwise, if the only way to know is to open it up, then it's not going to happen till next week.3. The big box with knobs above it is not for sale. It is an Enabler, a programmer for the Rhodes Chroma. It's just keeping the Xpander company, trying to look all cool and stuff...There ya' go.
