1993 Patrick Eggle Los Angeles Plus. This is the superstrat of the Patrick Eggle range. It's in very good to excellent condition with just small surface marks in the lacquer but no major dents or anything through to the wood. This was hand made in the UK.The guitar is original apart from the bridge and the chicken-head knob and plate. These were fitted by the previous owner for practical reasons. The original bridge was a Wilkinson Convertible which locks to a fixed bridge when the tremolo arm is released. These can work very well when set up properly. The disadvantage is that they're tricky to set up and can need adjustment when new strings are fitted so it's not uncommon to see them with the lock nut removed as, if they're not set up perfectly, they don't seat correctly leading to tuning issues. Also, the arm itself can sometimes be a pain to unscrew after using the guitar whereas this has a conventional drop-in am with adjustable tension. In the interests of balance, I like the Convertible trem on some guitars but it seems to vary from guitar to guitar as to how easy it is to live with. The replacement bridge is also a Wilkinson and works really well. The chicken-head knob arrangement is apparently from a Gibson 335 Varitone and was again fitted with practicality in mind as it's easy to see where it's set compared to the original chrome knob. The electronics themselves have not been altered so this functions as a normal LA Plus - volume, tone with push-pull coil-tap, five-way rotary pickup selector and kick-switch (bypass pickup selector and activate bridge pickup). The chicken-head knob and back plate can be removed in seconds and an original-style chrome knob is easily available for a few pounds. It's a great guitar to play, the neck has a comfortable medium profile with a nice satin feel and it sustains very well. It's currently set up for 9s with a medium action and no choking or rattling.Other than the playability, what sets this guitar apart is the body wood - it's a single piece of figured maple that's beautifully three dimensional. The colour, Autumn Gold, was a custom order and is very rare. It also has a rather nice AA figured maple fingerboard.SpecBody: One-piece figured mapleNeck: Rock maple bolt-onFingerboard: AA mapleTuners: Sperzel lockingBridge: WilkinsonPickups: Eggle Dual Rails designed by Kent ArmstrongNut: WilkaloidControls: Volume, Tone (with push/pull coil-tap), Five-way rotary pickup selector, Kick switch (straight to bridge pickup)
