Here is a 30ies or 40ies vintage french flugelhorn from the Brand "HENRI SELMER PARIS / DEPOSE / GRANDS PRIX 1927 - 1930 / 4 PLACE DANCOURT / PARIS / MADE IN FRANCE"This was the original flugelhorn design developed by Adolphe Sax. It was made popular in the United States by Clarke Terry, who introduced the flugelhorn to the Jazz scene in the 40ies.The design is unique with valve slides 1 and 3 leading from left to right. The valve stroke is really short and the bore is small 10mm. The bell is huge: 6.3 inches. There is no corrosion or red hot, but the silverplating shows wear, and there a many small dings and scratches on the surface - as to be expected from a 70 - 80 years old horn. This flugelhorn is very rare and definitely a collectors item. It could be made up or it could be played the way it comes: the valves are good, it still plays well and sounds great, with a warm and full sound - definitely a players horn. The case is old and has rusty spots, the mouthpiece is an old no namer which fits well. This flugelhorn was originally sold in Montreux, Switzerland.I offer this vintage horn from Switzerland to worldwide, airmail shipping to the States is $57, please ask for other international destinations. There is no reserve and a low starting bid, so have fun bidding.
