The Mistick Krewe of Comus, founded in 1856, is a New Orleans, Louisiana Carnival Krewe. It is the oldest continuous organization of New OrleansMardi Gras festivities.Prior to the advent of omus, Carnival celebrations in New Orleans were mostly confined to the Roman Catholic Creole community, and parades were irregular and often very informally organized. Comus was organized by (largely Protestant) Anglo-Americans.The Mystic Krewe of Comus was, and still is, a secret society comprised of the city’s most wealthy and well connected men. In the mid-19th century they conceived a spectacle whose opulence and imagination would astonish the city’s populace and change the face of Mardi Gras from that night forward. The Tableau Balls of the Mystic Krewe, and the many other krewes who would arise in their mold in the following decades, were the most sought after invitations of the year. Very Good condition. Minor shelf wear from age around edges. Cover very good condition. Binding tight. Stored in plastic sleeve. ***Stored and Ships in Archival Plastic Sleeve***
