Vintage Lute with really nicely carved rosette. I showed this to one of the premier Early Music lute players in the boston area and he told me that it was most likely German and from roughly the 1950s. In good condition for its age with some slight signs of use. needs some slight repair to make fully playable, but is not too far from it. i did not find a makers name on this, but in elaborate script, inside of the first fret that is part of the body, it is engraved the stylized letters A M. At least that is what i think it looks like. it is a very stylized script and the M is obviously an M, but the A is less clear. needs some work, but worth repairing. Some cracking below bridge. some of the outer binding on the tuning box is seperating. Tuning box is just beginning to separate from neck slightly, so i would not put the strings to full tension until instrument has been repaired. Decorative end piece from tuning box is missing. (does not effect play). roughly 1 inch slight crack on face above body frets. otherwise, only slight signs of use, minor scratches, scuffs, dings, etc. includes nice high quality hard shell case with good clean plush lining that does not smell at all musty. latches and hinges are good on case, but handle is loose on one end. instrument could use some cleaning/polishing. has remnants of small sticker on back of body that should be easy to remove. it is as described.
