VERY RARE top quality world class professional Moeck Steinkopf Birnbaum Maple Bass Kortholt woodwind. This is a rare historic instrument with a unique sound. This item is top quality from one of the leading European manufacturers of woodwinds. Good condition, good playing order except for tube hardware, world class materials and construction. Truly a world class unique item for a collector of early woodwind instruments that as far as we can tell has not been sold on eBay since 2013. Natural lacquered, 3 flaps (scale C - b), Used instrument in good condition. This is a copy of a renaissance instrument; it is made in two sections: Top joint and main body Comes with 2 old mounted reeds in original brass reed fittings. There is a small amount of residue from tape adhesive on the back lower finger hole where my grandmother once affixed tape to make it easier to hold and play. There is a small amount of wear around the top hole where the mouth tube reed was originally mounted. There is also a small amount of final clear coat finish that has been worn off the top cap piece of the instrument where it was held when played. New tubes and reeds may be required to play this instrument again. This instrument is part of my grandmother's estate. She was a lifelong music teacher with a Master's Degree in Music Education and a special interest in early Baroque instruments and a member of the American Recorder Society of North America. To my knowledge it has hardly been played in at least 20 years if not longer. The instrument was played in Yale University early music exposes and trips to baroque festivals in Florence, Italy. Made by the top quality German instrument company Moeck in circa 1960 - 1970. Moeck have now stopped making them. Shipped in the original box that is a bit rough but still largely intact with the original fitted foam. There are a couple of missing mouth fitting pieces that were part of the original shipment not included that may be required to make the instrument playable. For this reason we cannot list this instrument as fully functional. Instrument Information: The kortholt was popular in the Renaissance period, the name coming from the German kurz (becoming kort) meaning short and holz (becoming holt) meaning wood. This refers to the characteristic low sound of the instrument. The kortholt is a capped reed instrument and is double bored, similar to the bassoon. The pitch of the note can be varied by opening or closing finger and side holes along the length of the instrument. The sound is a similar to the crumhorn, but is softer. |
