Absolutely stunning bass viol - bought new as a present but sadly never used.Made in the style of Richard Meares based on the plans and instructions provided by Dietrich Kessler in the book Making Musical Instruments edited by Charles Ford, (Faber) The fingerboard is made from ebony and holly inspired by the Tenor Viol by Gregor Karpp of Koenigsberg which is in the National Music Museum of Dakota USA. Carved with a figurehead and inlaid with purfling patterns. The spruce soundboard has had some small resin patches filled during the making of this instrument (see below the lower eye of the bass sound hole. The pegs are made of pear and the instrument has been finished with a light orange/yellow oil varnish. Dimensions are as follows: 134cm overall length, 71cm scale length, 42cm lower bout width, 14cm rib depth, 24cm overall depth. The Viol was strung up with Early Music Shop strings, but the buyer should anticipate that some movement of the soundpost, string changes and other general setup will probably be required to make this instrument play and sound its best after transit.A bow and case which were bought separately are NOT included but could be arranged if required - please contact me if you are interested in a complete package.The instrument will be very carefully packed and includes free UK delivery, but international postage costs will unfortunately be high - however, at the listed Buy It Now price it still represents a rare opportunity for a real bargain!If you require any further information or pictures just let me know.
