Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Pro Reverb, well serviced and freshly retubed. Providing the general tonal character of a Twin Reverb, but boasting a tube rectifier and more manageable 40 watts of power, the Pro Reverb is a 2x12 amplifier with enough volume for large ensemble situations and the perfect balance between shimmering Blackface cleans and smooth, touch sensitive overdrive. The perfect platform for effects pedals, the cleans on this Pro are balanced, clear, and warm. Of course once you reach around 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly, and you get that dynamic, glassy sound that adds just the right amount of grit to your tone. Very original and well maintained, this Pro Reverb is ready for stage and studio use!The circuit is very original and recently serviced, with all original transformers that date between mid 1965 and early '66. The stock CTS pots are all intact as well, dating to mid '66, and the chassis stamp notes a 1966 build date as well. The amp retains the original blue molded Ajax capacitors which are a hallmark of the Blackface tone, and the amp boasts a complete recap of the main filter caps and smaller bypass caps, all with top notch Sprague capacitors, along with a modern three-prong power cable. A few newer Sprague Orange Drop caps are present in the preamp as well to keep everything operating within original factory spec. The speakers are a pair of era correct Jensen C12Q speakers which date to 1964. This particular Jensen speaker pair has excellent wattage handling, delivering hi-fi clarity and warmth. The tube chart is also intact, noting the AA165 circuit. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth is intact, showing some notable wear along the front bottom edge and on the top of the amp, as this Pro has been toured quite a bit. A few tiny screw holes are also present on the underside of the amp from casters which were subsequently removed. The grillcloth has been replaced and has already aged quite a bit. While the cloth is the correct Fender silver sparkle thread, it was installed with the pattern going vertically, as opposed to the traditional horizontal orientation. All of the original hardware is present, including the chassis straps, raised Fender logo, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and patent pending tilt-back legs. This Pro Reverb has fresh JJ 6L6 power tubes, a very original and well maintained circuit, and sounds every bit as good as a Blackface Fender should!
