This slab will make at least 3 SUPER EXHIBITION RIFLE BLANKSOR A VERY BEAUTIFUL TABLE The Butt dimensions are: Thick: 3" Wide: 13.5" Long: 63" Juglans hindsii "Claro walnut"The wood of Juglans hindsii is commonly called Claro walnut by the lumber industry and woodworkers.It is highly figured with rich brown color and striking grain patterns,especially in the crotch areas,where large limbs meet the trunk.It is used in small quantities to make fine furniture,flooring,guitars,veneers,knobs and handles,writing pens,knife scales,bowls as well as gun stocks and pistol grips,and sold as slabs to make large natural-top tables because of its durability,good working properties,and swirling iridescent figure.The Claro walnut burl is prized by woodworkers and the wood industry world wide for its amazing beauty and is very "rare" especially in the high grade form!The historical range of Claro walnut is from the San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento Valley to the Inner Northern California Coast Ranges and San Francisco Bay Area,in California.Some confusion still exists about the nature of Claro walnut because Juglans hindsii is commonly used as the rootstock of orchard trees.The section below the original graft is Claro walnut wood,while the section above is the lighter -colored Juglans regia "English walnut".Some woodworkers have even taken advantage of this by making the change in color of the wood a feature of their work. Juglans regia "English walnut" Its heartwood is heavy,hard,open-grained hardwood.Freshly cut live wood may be Dijon-mustard color,darkening to brown over a few days.The dried lumber is a rich chocolate-brown to black,with cream to tan sapwood,and may feature unusual figures,such as "marble cake","curly","feather" among others.It is prized by fine woodworkers for its durability,lustre and chatoyance,and is used for high-end flooring,guitars,furniture,veneers,knobs and handles,writing pens,knife scales as well as high-end gun stocks and pistol grips.
