1971 Fender Mustang Guitar Competition Red & Matching Headstock Mini 22.5" Scale

This is an early 1971 year model, 22.5" (Short) Scale Fender Mustang electric guitar with the original "Competition Red" finish & matching headstock (additional photos embedded below). Not sure if it was a special order or what. There were not very many Mustangs this late in this series production to also have a matching headstock.Who ever the original owner was, they really loved to play this little Mustang! As you can see, the finish is heavily warn. Dings, dents, scratches, play ware through the finish in places, color faded to almost a "Candy Tangerine" color in places, and has lacquer checking too. Competition Mustangs I've had were finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, except on the back of the neck and this one is no different. The original owner played it until the frets were worn to almost level with the fingerboard. The nut was missing and the frets were not serviceable, so I replaced the missing bone nut and replaced the frets. It's been set up and plays like new again, but with all of it's original mojo intact. All of the parts are original (except for the nut & fret replacement, of course). Photos of the inside are embedded below. The pickup switches function flawlessly, the pots have no functional issues and do not "crackle" when adjusted, and theses original pickups sound amazing! Part of the latches look to have been replaced or repaired (see photos below), but they do close and function properly.
