Description
Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple bop kit, with 8x10, 9x12, and 13x14 toms and a 14x18 kick drum, in Yamaha's popular and longstanding Vintage Natural finish.I bought these drums in March of 2015. I played them on gigs 2-3 times a week, but they always traveled in heavy padded bags and were handled very carefully. The only blemishes to speak of are the usual pedal rash on the bass hoop (those Yamaha hoop protectors always seem to fall off after about a week), and there are two or three little bumps on the back of the 12" tom where it collided with the snare. I tried to get a photo of this but it is so minor that it didn't show up in the photos. You can feel it if you run your hand over the finish. There is a little bit of wear on the bass drum T-handles from the drum being set on end so I could put the gig bag over it, but it is pretty minor. I just mention it in the interest of full disclosure.Other than these factors the drums are an easy 9 out of 10. The 10" tom got relatively little use as I primarily used a traditional 12/14/18 setup. The vintage natural finish is gorgeous, and I guess it is supposed to get more and more "golden" over time. I have actually noticed this as one of the drums was a shade or two darker than the rest when I first received them, but they all match nicely now. After I took the drums out of the boxes I immediately changed all of the heads except the bass drum reso, so the stock heads have never been played. I replaced the stock heads for this sale, so these drums are nearly showroom new. You have clear emperors on tom batters, clear ambassadors on tom resos, coated ambassador on kick batter, and the stock smooth white PS3 on kick reso. These heads have never seen a single stick stroke, excepting the bass drum reso. There's a little bit of wear on the bass drum reso head from a previous logo sticker being removed. I can remove the currently installed Vic Firth logo before I ship, if you desire.I have all of the original boxes and (I think) packing material for all four drums, and I intend to ship them each individually. If the buyer doesn't care to have the original boxes I will disassemble and nest the drums in one or two boxes to save on shipping. The drums sound great in a wide range of tuning. I mostly played them tuned pretty tight for bebop and straight-ahead jazz, but I recently used the toms with a different, larger bass drum with a blues/rock band and they killed in that setting too, at a lower, looser tension, with a double ply head.Interesting side note - the great jazz drummer Greg Hutchinson played this kit on the album "Soon" by guitarist Randy Napoleon. The album was recorded at a nearby studio and I rented the drums to Randy for the session.I think I covered all of the bases but please let me know if you have any further questions!
