Description Brand: Conn Exact Year: 1956 Finish: Brass Lacquer Model: Victor 6A Long/Early Model Skill Level: Professional
This is a Rare Classic 1956 C.G. Conn Victor Early Model 6A Long Cornet(Trumpet). Serial number is 616138. It is in fantastic used condition with only a few very minor dings and scuffs. Please review all of the pictures thoroughly as I have attempted to fully disclose the condition of the horn. The Crysteel Valves are like new, freshly broken'in condition and the compression is perfect. The original lacquer is about 95% to 97% (& I believe this to be a conservative visual assessment). It is completely ready to play and will not need any service. This listing includes the following items as shown. 1956 C.G. Conn Victor Early Model 6A Long Cornet with brass lyre. The original case with two working keys & plastic rain cover. Two Conn "Improved Precision" series (long shank) cornet mouthpieces (#2 & #4). An original Conn Instrument Care instructional pamphlet. An original "Crysteel Valves/Balanced Bore" hang tag. The original Conn "Guarantee & Registry Card" hang tag, which has the SN# and Final Inspection Sign-off. And, a Conn clear valve guard with original box (Part# 883). As you might see from the pictures, the condition of this horn along with the original components and literature... plus, the additional accessories makes this a Gem for any collector and/or professional player! The long cornets are very versatile and can be a wonderful "go-to" jazz horn. It is mouthpiece sensitive so that the tone changes greatly according to your mouthpiece choice. The tone can be smooth, mellow and dark with a deep cup mpc and with a shallower trumpet style cup it is extremely bold and bright enough to keep up with the trumpet section. And, with the smaller Conn#1 bore (0.438") and huge 5 1/8" bell it plays easily and big. You could play one passage soft and smokey and in the next you could light-up the room with a huge bright paint peeling tune. This horn has great flexibility, quick response and plays extremely well. There are others that have written about the characteristics of this horn much more eloquently and with more knowledge/experience than myself, so I am adding a couple of links if you decide to investigate further... What Conn said in 1957: "New design that looks like a trumpet ... easier to blow, easier to handle. Acoustical qualities similar to those of the 28A Connstellation. Features Clickless Crysteel valves with bottom springs for fast, smooth, positive action and quiet performance. Nickel silver finger hook, third valve ring, and water keys. Length 21 3/8", weight 2 lbs. 10 oz., bell diameter 5 1/8". Outfit includes attractive, sturdy Victor case, correct mouthpiece and music lyre. Highly polished brass, beautifully nickel trimmed, protected by long lasting, acid resistant LUSTRE-CONN finish." Dr. Christine Derksen published information on ConnLoyalist website about the Conn 6A Victor Early Model here: https://cderksen.home.xs4all.nl/Conn6A1956image.html A good friend, Jonathan Milam, posted a wonderful youtube video demonstration about the Conn 6A Victor here: https://youtu.be/9o3jVW2lgO4 Trent Austin stated, "...I could easily play this on jazz gigs and cover EVERY sound, from super zap to flumpety." It will satisfy the most discerning taste (IMO). Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I am happy to answer.
