Mark Campellone Special Custom 18 Inch Archtop Since 1978 Mark Campellone has been involved with designing and building guitars. Now, after years of repairing, restoring and custom building instruments, he focuses his attention on archtop guitars as he produces traditionally styled instruments of the highest quality. With construction based on long-standing designs, and decorative appointments which are at once classic and original, each instrument is carefully crafted to produce a guitar which is visually apealing, easily playable and richly voiced. This particular 18" Campellone archtop was custom built, it is the first Campellone that was made with the Florentine style cutaway and oval soundhole. This one has a beautiful looking highly figured maple body, and a carved spruce top. It features an ebony fretboard with art deco style abalone inlay, ebony bridge and adjustable ebony saddle, an ebony pickguard with volume control, floating DeArmond pickup, and ebony/goldplated tailpiece. The headstock has been adorned beautifully with abalone "M Campellone" inlay and some other abalone ornaments. Soundwise it is something very special, you will immediately recognize this as a beautifully matured instrument, it has the round, warm bass tones of a dreadnought but that unique, remarkable character of a vintage archtop. Amplified it sounds just as good, due to its New Old Stock 1968 DeArmond floating Pickup. It is is excellent condition, on its back it has some close to invisible angelhair wear, and some minor bucklerash that is almost not worth mentioning, both deficiencies are only visible at a certain incidence of light. Furthermore it has some small spots on its top and a few tiny marks on the headstock.
