Under the top, the solid Sitka spruce braces are arranged in a standard scalloped "X" pattern. This allows the top to vibrate more freely without compromising strength. It has a distinctly more pronounced tonal character than non-scalloped guitars. The dovetail neck joint is crucial to this guitar's sound and stability as well. Aesthetically, the D-45 is about as dressed up as it gets. It features beautiful abalone pearl style 45 hexagon inlays on the fretboard, as well as abalone pearl body binding with white boltaron.
