Up for sale is a vintage Music Man Stingray 5, in excellent condition. Serial #55887, built March 14, 1995 in San Luis Obispo, California, USA. Includes extra pickguard, new OEM pickup switch, and OEM (I think) hardshell case.
I'm a player, not a collector, so I buy instruments that sound and feel great, that have intangibles like "vibe" and "personality" and "soul". You may or may not see it in the pictures, but you will definitely feel it when you play. I am a professional who takes very good care of my gear, and any instrument that I sell always leaves my hands playing and sounding better than when I got it.
It's all white, 100% stock, and I'm including an extra pickguard (see last photo). It has the standard Music Man soapbar pickup, with 3-way pickup switch, and a built-in pre-amp that gives you a 3-band EQ bass-mid-treble boost/cut. The other knob is, of course, volume. The Music Man bridge is excellent — massive and heavy. The neck has a really nice unfinished feel. I believe it's burled maple, as you can see in the neck pic, with rosewood fingerboard. It's in beautiful cosmetic condition, with just a few minor dings/scratches here & there. I have owned it for about 12 years. Have done some gigs and sessions with it, but mostly it has been in its lonely case with a 2-way humidifier, dreaming of the day when someone will play it more than I do. It has a nice, consistent low B, unlike some 34" scale 5-strings (won't mention any names). The tone is punchy and consistent throughout its range, and it sings everywhere on the neck. The neck feels great, and is easy to play. It has low action, and no buzz. Audio
And here's a little session I played on with this bass. The song is Fool's Paradise by Ed Roth (with Chad Smith on drums). You can listen to it on , , or search for it on Spotify. I probably did some other recordings with this bass, but this is the only one I remember at this moment.
Killer tone, killer vibe. What more can I say? Here are the deets:
I am not the original owner, and don't know much about its history. I bought it from a private party in either 2004 or 2005. Music Man is a great company, and they have strong support if you ever need parts. It's all 100% stock (may have changed the jack at some point), super solid and well built. I have two pick guards for it. Not sure which is the original, but you will get both. Comes with a very nice hardshell case. It's the rectangular kind, but the bass fits well inside so I'm guessing it is the original, designed specifically for this bass. Free pickup switch: At one point I thought the pickup switch was dead so I got a replacement directly from Music Man. Turns out all it needed was a little DeOxit, so you get a brand new OEM switch just in case you ever need it. Great action, great intonation. I have kept it professionally maintained. I keep it in its case, with a 2-way humidifier to maintain the ideal 40-something percent humidity. You have no idea how important this is. Or maybe you do.
Shipping: I will ship by a method of my choice, probably FedEx Ground (or maybe USPS), in the hard case, in a padded/popcorned cardboard shipping box. I always do my best to ship within 24 hours, and probably will, but things can happen so wait a day or two before calling the National Guard. Returns: This shouldn't come as a surprise, but no returns. Sorry for any inconvenience. I list everything as accurately and as honestly as possible. I am a professional who takes very good care of my gear. This bass is as described, and works perfectly to the best of my knowledge. Will you love this bass? Probably. Will you find any unwanted surprises? Probably not.
Other items: Over the next several months I'll be selling some other guitars and basses, at a wide range of prices & hipster quotients. Some could even be older than you. Might be cool to follow me as a seller. Just sayin'.
